| i just noticed it's becoming more and more common to think of the Iraq situation as something having to do with islamist terrorism, and Al-Qaida in particular. |
| But i remember how absolutely self-serving and contrived it seemed back when President Bush of The United States of America tried to make the connection between September 11 and his wish to invade Iraq. |
| How is it that now even critical and deeply-thinking people seem to take the connection for granted? |
| This is what happened: when Bush and his Halliburton gang proceeded to kill people in Iraq with, evidently, not the slightest idea of what should happen "after", a power vacuum formed. Now all sorts of evil crazed assholes are filling that vacuum with car bombs, and even thoughtul people begin to file these occurrences under the heading of "Islamist Terrorism" -- e presto there you have it: the shrub's pathetic dispicable attempt at restoring his daddy's honor, and earning some bucks for his buddies in the process, seems retroactively to be justified in precisely the terms we all knew were bullshit at the time. |

| Two examples illustrating why i'd say Public Policy right now: |
| 1. the german government of the past six years has a comparatively good track record in legislating policies that support renewable energy sources, notably guaranteeing high rates per KW of renewable enery fed into the grid, which has caused a huge surge in wind turbines being set up in recent years, because private investors can calculate exactly if, when and how an investment will return. |

| How true! Listening to music i like -- legally, of course -- i often wish there were a one click method to show the artists some appreciation, and be sure it wasn't shared or completely gobbled up by some zaibatsu. Anyone who publishes music on the web for download should include a link to such a page in the ID3 or whatever headers of the file itself -- it's amazing how many don't use this this simple method to allow their listeners to link back to them. |
