| Danske Bank is pointing fingers at IBM's DB2 database as the culprit for a massive outage that caused the Danish bank's trading desks, currency exchange and communications with other banks to shut down. The problems began on 10 Mar 2003, when a defective power unit was replaced in an IBM Ramac Virtual Array (RVA) storage system. An electrical outage occurred during the repairs, which caused operations at one of the bank's two operating centers to come to a halt. When operations were finally resumed, extensive data inconsistencies were discovered throughout a week-long process of trying to recover data. Apparently, a flaw had existed in DB2 in comparable installations since 1997, although it had not been detected prior to this event. IBM has issued a fix. | Auftrags-Nr.R030406001WEB : Programmentwicklung unter Windows Ein Kunde in Frankfurt möchte ein programm unter Windows entwickeln lassen, welches als Dienst installiert ist und immer läuft. Es hört auf einem bestimmten Port zu und nimmt eine Zip Datei entgegen. Die Zip Datei wird auf dem Desktop des aktuell angemeldeten Benutzers gespeichert und automatisch entpackt. Das Programm muss mit einem Setup kommen, damit es sich mit ein paar Klicks einfach installieren lässt. Es installiert sich dabei als Dienst und hört auf Port Nummer 1701. Das Programm soll unter der deutschen Version von WinXP laufen, wenn es geht auch unter Win2K und Win98. Wenn an den entsprechenden Port das Kommando "test" gesendet wird, dann antwortet das Programm mit "OK". Wenn an den entsprechenden Port das Kommando "file" gesendet wird, dann nimmt das Programm die nachfolgende Zip Datei als String entgegen und speichert es in einem Verzeichnis auf dem Desktop des aktuell angemeldeten Benutzers ab. Sollte das Verzeichnis noch nicht existieren, wird es von dem Programm automatisch erstellt. In der Zip Datei befindet sich eine vordefinierte Verzeichnisstruktur, welches beim automatischen Entpacken in diesem Verzeichnis beibehalten werden soll. Anschließend wird die Zip Datei gelöscht. Nach getaner Arbeit antwortet das Programm mit einem "OK" oder mit einem Error Code, falls eines der folgenden Fehler aufgetreten ist: - Timeout 60 Sekunden, die Übertragung der Zip Datei hat gar nicht erst begonnen. (ErrorCode 10) - Abbrechen der Übertragung, bevor von der Gegenseite ein "EOF" geschickt wurde. (ErrorCode 20) - Kann aktuellen Benutzer nicht ermitteln (ErrorCode 30) - Das Verzeichnis existiert nicht auf dem Desktop und kann nicht erstellt werden (ErrorCode 40) - Die Zip Datei kann nicht in das gewünschte Verzeichnis geschrieben werden (ErrorCode 50) - Die Zip Datei kann nicht entpackt werden (ErrorCode 60) - Die Zip Datei kann nicht gelöscht werden (ErrorCode 70) Es ist unbedingt erforderlich, dass der Dienst auf dem Desktop des _aktuell_ angemeldeten Benutzers operiert und nicht etwa auf dem Desktop von "all users". Wenn es geht sollten vorhandene Zip Libraries in das Programm integriert werden, um die Zip Datei zu entpacken. Ansonsten muss ein freies Kommandozeilentool, wie pkunzip vom Setup Programm mit installiert werden. Es ist kein Einsatz vor Ort erforderlich, das Programm kann egal wo entwickelt werden. The subject of the message is Bandwagon Jumping. The bandwagon here is Microsoft. A remarkable movement, and a remarkable move by MS. They didn't reinvent RSS as they jumped in.
